MILA HENDINEJAD

Home: Welcome

Mila is an Iranian-Canadian abstract painter who is based in North York. She has been working with colours, composition, and design for over 15 years. Her journey began as a textile engineer and as the director of a textile dyeing factory. She has been exploring mixed media since she migrated to Canada in 1998, and has been a member of North York Visual Artists since 2009.

Her work is inspired by her roots in Persian art culture and characterized by the use of vibrant colours, textures, forms, and figures. She begins with a painting that you might think has fulfilled it’s destiny. But then layers upon layers of oil paint follow and cover up the original. The first layer is lost. Nothing of what exists remains. She then begins the destruction process. Layers come off until something new is created resulting in the final pieces you see here.
